How can you tell if you have traction control or not. I bought my 2007 base model used. It's not a TR5 but has the extra large oil pump, tow pkg, designs on the handles and wipers and hood scoop. Twice in the snow when going down hill and braking there was a weird noise coming from the brakes. I know what abs breaks feel like and this sound was one I hadn't heard before, kind of like a shudder. The wheel never locked up and I almost felt as if my foot was disconnected from the brakes for a few seconds.

You don't have TRAC in the base model. It's SR5, not TR5. And what you felt was indeed the ABS kicking on.
