DIY: Disable DRL / Autolights and/or Independent Fog Light Mod w/ Pics

Note: If you find this helpful please use the thanks button under this post.

I searched and could not find any straight out directions with pictures so here it is!

Needed:

Small amount of time

Wire snips

Electric Tape

If you wish to do the independent fog light mod you will also need:

10MM Ratchet or Socket

Wire strippers

Grounding connector (U or O shaped thing that connects to the wire for a ground)

1st we need to remove the lower glove box. Instructions and pictures may be found in your owners manual on p. 344. But it is very simple just disconnect the damper. (The hydraulic looking arm just slides off.) Then squeeze around the top of the glove box and pull down then out. Ta Da!

You will see a white connector with many wires attached to it as in the pictures below.

The numbers are referenced as

[1]

[2]

[3] [12]

[4] [13]

[5] [15]

etc etc

etc etc

etc etc

The two important ones are fog lights ([4] white) and (DRL [12] blue)

MAKE SURE THE IGNITION IS OFF AND KEY REMOVED!

Disable DRL / Autolights Directions

1. Unplug the connector. (Just squeeze white tab and pull)

2. Snip the blue wire at pin [12] about half way between tape and connector. 12 is on the top of the right column of wire.

3. Wrap electric tape around both ends so that they cannot connect or ground to anything.

Ta da! No more DRL / Autolights

Independent Fog Lights Directions (Make sure fog lights are off)

Note: There will be no warning buzz if you leave the fog lights on when exiting the vehicle. However the headlight buzz still works.

1. Unplug the connector. (Just squeeze white tab and pull)

2. Snip the white wire at pin [4] about 1.5 inches from connection.

3. Pull the white wire from the bundle by pulling it from the top. (This gives you more length to ground)

4. Strip a small amount of wire and crimp whatever you will be using to ground the wire.

5. Ground wire. (I back out the 10mm bolt to the left of the connector, grounded connection, and tightened it back up.

Ta da! You now have full control of your fog lights!

EDIT: You may also use a wire tap and run it to a ground and you will not have to cut the white wire.

Now test everything out to make sure it is working properly and reassemble your glove box.

Here are some pictures. Sorry I didn't get any before pictures, but I about forgot the pictures all together.

Here is the blue wire after snip and tape.

Here is the grounded fog light wire.

Nice work! This has been explained on here several times, but never with the aid of pictures, should help up any future confusion.

Do you really have to disconnect the fog lights or can you just splice in a ground?

You can splice in a ground! I will edit the post to reflect that.

Yes. I just tapped in with a wire tap and ran a new ground wire to the same location as above.

Yeah. You either leave everything as is and just always leave the foglight switch on or you do the foglight mod.

I am not sure which one would be parking lights, but then the fog light are not independent.

That would mean you were splicing another wire and more likely to have something go wrong down the road. It is much easier to ground to a bolt anyways.
