Belt squeal at startup

Was wondering if it's normal to hear a tiny belt squeal at startup. Is this a sign that the belt is getting old, or normal?

My 2010 Corolla S, automatic, has only 20,000km. My mom's 2010 Corolla does the same, and she has 13,000 km.

I owned a 2006 Corolla back then, with 24,000 km, and I decided to change the belt because the squeal was much longer at startup, and sometimes would last 5 to 10 seconds, and after changing the belt, all was fine. I recall the mechanic at Toyota saying, the belt wasn't about snap, but changing the belt solved the problem.

The serpentine belts are installed loose from the factory and they dont have automatic belt tensionner. Just pass by the dealer and ask them to adjust the tension since your still under warranty. It will cover your ass from over tightening it yourself and avoid the cause of other long term related problems such as early pulley bearing failure.

I had the same problem and the first thing a technician did was spray "belt dressing" on it. I was so pissed they used that sticky junk on a new car and the squealing problem did not disappear. I had to go back later on to get it tightened.

There is a TSB for premature belt failure but when I went for mine I was told I was not within the VIN range.

The VIN change for our Corollas is 2T1BU4EE#AC319135

This TSB applies to all NUMMI built (VINs starting with 1NX) and to TMMC built vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown above.
