I just washed my white 2010 dc trd and noticed lots of rusty spots on my box, and even more on the tailgate. I live in upstate ny and it has been a snowy and cold winter so far,but i certainly did not think i would find lots of rust spots on my new truck after washing it. Is this a common problem with the 2010's. I had a 2007 tundra for 3 years which i used on various constuction sites and had several scratches but no rust. Is anyone else having this problem? I go in for toyota 20,000 mile service in a few weeks and will see how they plan on keeping my bussiness.

If is the same thing my 07 tacoma gets, it is rust from the stuff they put on the roads in the winter. My bro's tundra gets it too. Both our trucks are super white. I can pick my rust spots off. Did you try picking it off with your fingernail? It is probably cause by metal shavings from the machines used to crush the stones they spread on the roads in the winter. was your previous 2007 white? if not, you may just not have noticed them on a different color.

^Salt, you mean?
I have a white Mustang that was driven in winter before I got it. My mother has had a white car for years....we get plenty of snow here.....it's not stuff I can just pick off, I had to sand it down and repaint it.
OP: Toyota has a 5 year/unlimited mile rust perforation warranty. If by then you have rust holes, it's covered!

We get plenty of snow here in PA too. Not just the salt, the stones and other garbage they spread on the road. My "rust" spots "picked" off. Maybe his situation is different. Those stones are ground up in a machine at some point so my guess would be the rust spots could be from metal shavings from the machine that grinds up the stones. Just a guess...
I can't see a truck that new having actual rust, that would be ridiculous...but then again my tacoma had no paint left on the rear lower fender flares after 1000 miles in the winter.

That's why I'm confused as to what's going on....actual rust, or stuff like "surface" rust? Hmmm
