22re running funny

I have an 88 toyota 4wd pick up and this thing is starting to get on my last nerve. 1st when you start it up you have to let it fully warm up or it wants to spit and sputter and than stall. Now if you put the pedal to the floor it will drive, but has no power. 2nd even after you let it warm up some days when I'm on the freeway it struggles to stay at 65-70mph. It keeps down shifting into passing gear and will come back up to 70mph and shift back into OD. Now after it shifts into OD it will slow back down to 60mph and starts all over again. Now sometimes it runs fine at 65-70mph and has no problems at all. The truck has 204,xxx miles on it and looks like it's stock(no rebuild). This is mt 1st yota and it's killing me with this crap. I know that the 22re is no powerhouse motor, but come on. The tires are 235/75-15 stock 4:30 gears and 4 speed Auto trans. I'm really thinking of swapping out this engine and tranz to a gm set up.

Start by verifying the simple things. One valuable piece of information would be if you could measure fuel pressure while its having its episode. Does it feel like a misfire? Have you looked at the tune up parts such as the plugs, wires, dist. cap etc?

plugs wires cap and rotor

AFM meter in the filter box

fuel filter if plugged original can kill the FP

pressure needs to be perfect or will affect starting and running

it is critical that it be good pressure and volume

also possibilty of weak ignitor, but unlikely

thanks i'll look at this.

I got the 2 codes off the computer and they 25-Fuel metering device (lean) and 26- Fuel metering device (rich). I'm thinking the Mass air meter is going bad....I think.
