my first autocross

went out today bright and early doing an autocross.....

i ended up doing better than i thought..

fastest time of the day was a 17.863 run by a professional racer (yes it was a small course)

my personal best from the 3 runs was a 22.508 with just my springs, strutbar and rims (swaybar not in yet)

some of the cars i beat:

STI

EVO

mustang GT

2 s2k's

a bunch of heavy modded civics (roll cages coilover etc.)

celica's etc.

i was pretty amazed at it for being my first time running...

guess it goes to show driver skill rulez fast cars.

Holy crap that's a short course... my first one of this season had runs over 80 seconds (Not me of course, I was down around 69 Congrats on getting into the sport though, you'll have a great time. As you've already found out, concentrate on your driving, not building your car. You'll be much happier with your times knowing that the improvement came from you, not your wallet. And your wallet will be much happier too.

You find out more and more that most of the people with nice cars.... Don't know how to drive them. I regularly beat out WRX's and other fast cars. And it's not that I am amazing or anything (because there are a lot better drivers than me), but I know how to drive my car, and they just own a fast car. Go figure.

^^ Word. Don't even get me started on Corvette drivers...

Or the single Elise driver that I've seen at an event.... what a dipshit. On his way to the starting line... DRIVING OFF THE GRID, he managed to run over the same cone TWICE, and someone's lunch in a cooler. Granted, he would have done this in any car, but he just looked like so much more of an idiot doing it in an Elise. Then he managed to run the slowest times of the day

Heh, interestingly enough the one and only elise I've ever seen (imported, no less) was also driven by a shitty driver. He kept the thing in first the entire course, where I was bumping up near third on some sweeps

I had really been looking forward to seeing it perform... but brotha didn't know how to drive.

You have to give him credit for trying though. At least he brought the car to an event. Most people that can afford a car like that would be too snooty to even race it like that.

Even though it is kinda funny!

There are a total of 5 different Elises that make it to our local events. 2 are pretty good, 2 are OK, and 1 is horrible. In the end, it really comes down to who knows what they're doing. Not what car you're driving.

But, I can't dawg anybody for at least coming out and trying to get better. Practice makes perfect. If you drive an Elise long enough, eventually you're gonna learn how to make it go fast.

I think the pleasure in seeing an Elise do poorly is probably my jealousy showing through. And maybe a few others around here!

I wish I could do some autocross cause there are alot more nearer events to me but since I drive a mini suv, only the rallycross people allow me to race, and their event is three hours away.

Pick up a cheap small car.

I went a few more funnier. I beat a BMW 850CSi with my 05 Camry SE with a 5-speed autobox on stock everything includng tires.
